Fuerteventura: Excellent off-plan investment opportunities with guaranteed rental returns

Mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey as Insulae Fortunatae - The Fortunate Islands, the Canaries still live up to that name.  Nestled off the coast of Africa, they are blessed with a year-round glorious climate, making them an ideal choice for a new property.

The islands are all volcanic in origin, and have a breath-taking landscape of mountains and beaches, some of which are golden, some a striking volcanic black. This amazing combination is complimented by laurel and pine forests, adding a touch of green to the stunning lavascapes.  Crystal clear waters are inhabited by an exotic variety of marine life, including whales and dolphins, making the islands a favourite for scuba divers.  With a stable economy based largely on tourism, fishing and agriculture, these islands are many people’s idea of paradise.

Fuerteventura is the island with the longest coastline – made up of wide plains and gentle valleys, with vast, spectacularly beautiful beaches.  As it’s also the least inhabited of the Canaries it’s the perfect place for a relaxed escape from the stresses and strains of modern life.  It is less centred on club and nightlife than some of the other islands, but there is certainly enough entertainment for visitors and locals alike.  There are a vast number of both stylish and family-oriented restaurants, with a global range of cuisines, and excellent shopping areas.

Locals take their sensual pleasure very seriously. Eating is a highly civilised affair, and everything stops each day at lunchtime for a delicious, healthy meal – usually simply prepared fresh fish – followed by a siesta.

For the more energetically inclined, Fuerteventura is a hotspot for fishing – sardines, tuna and swordfish are among the regular catch – windsurfing, diving, snorkelling and other water sports. But whatever pursuits you follow on the island, you’ll find the way of being is relaxed and the quality of life is high.

Fuerteventura is served by a magnificent, conveniently located airport, where international flights arrive from numerous, mainly European, countries daily. Coupled with the fantastic climate this means that hotel occupancy rates average over 65% over the year, making it an ideal investment opportunity as well as a great location for a second home.
