Tourism, leisure, culture and climate: A perfect combination for the investment portfolio

Egypt is fast becoming a destination of choice among Europeans, not only providing the opportunity for a quick getaway to the sun, but an attractive investment market too. Relatively low investment prices combined with the booming tourism industry and demand for quality property means Egypt attracts a vast amount of international interest. The Egyptian government is keen to encourage foreign investment, and in 2005 relaxed property laws to make the buying process simpler. They continue to support economic reforms and initiatives to enhance the investment climate.

Many tourists now head to what is called the ‘Red Sea Riviera’, a stretch of coastline with perfect sandy beaches and turquoise seas. The most well known of the Red Sea resorts is Sharm el Sheik, which is a very popular destination for families, but Hurghada, once a small fishing village, is rapidly becoming just as popular, thanks in part to having its own international airport. Stretching along the coast for approximately 40km, Hurghada successfully mixes traditional street markets with high class hotels. The area as a whole is famed for diving, with warm waters in the winter meaning that enthusiasts can get their fix all year round.

A little further north is the town of El Gouna, taking in 10km of sandy beach. A relatively new discovery for holiday makers, El Gouna offers an upmarket and relaxing experience. It has world class spas, golf and, of course, unlimited diving, as well as two marinas. A good selection of restaurants and entertainment venues completes the picture.

Getting to Egypt is easy and very affordable, with direct flights from the UK taking approximately five hours. Property prices are likewise affordable and, coupled with the low cost of living, make the area a very attractive proposition, both as an investment and as a place to spend some spare time.
